About

I came across storytelling in a series of workshops at a festival in 1992, and realised I had found my natural habitat - being a person who had always loved stories and gravitated toward story subjects at school (English, History, RE). Since that time I have found the world of stories and storytelling to be a wonderfully rich and rewarding one. I relish every opportunity I get to share my delight in our great heritage of stories.

I began telling stories professionally in 1994, since when I have continued my professional development, performance and skills by attending a series of workshops and courses:

Year Long Performance/Public Storytelling Development Course (1998-99), with internationally renowned storyteller Ben Haggarty,

Physical theatre (2000) with Kaos Theatre,

Physical Storytelling for the Theatre (2002), with Desmond Jones,

The Neutral Mask (2003), with Francis Battern.

Storytelling of the Celtic Kingdoms (2006), with David Campbell and Claire Mc Nicol.

Storytelling and the Narrative Arts (2014) with Shonaleigh and Simon Heywood.

Awaken the Fool Within (2005 -2016) with Angela Halvorsen Bogo

Storytelling & Shakespeare (2016) with Michael Harvey & Paola Balbi, Beyond the Border, Summer School.

I hold a Level 4 Certificate of Education and have taught drama (and citizenship) to adults with learning disabilities for Brockenhurst College, between 2005 and 2013 (citizenship teaching continues to the present).

I was a founder member of ‘Heads and Tales Storytelling Cafe’ in Ringwood, which I continue to run (with other committee members) and have performed there regularly since 2010.

Testimonials

Dear Madeleine

I just wanted to say thank you so much for your storytelling yesterday. As you know it was the first time we have held such an event and I was really pleased with how it went. The audience all enjoyed it and the comments on the forms are all very positive and complimentary. I think it is an event we will definitely look to repeat.

Many Thanks once again

Thanks for your email ... and more to the point ... thanks for your work. I have had nothing but praise from all quarters for your storytelling skills including Peter Hearn saying that it was the best session he had ever been in,(that is very good praise indeed!)

Hello Madeleine!

I wanted to let you know I am very happy I got to meet you and know you a little bit. It was a pleasure to share the workshop with you and I hope we will keep in touch. Your strength while you are telling a story inspired me and I will keep you in my mind as an example of what I want to achieve.
